As shown in the previous entries in regards to holding the shinai, you should end up with some calluses on the left hand. Here is a webcam pic of my left hand after todays training. I would show my left foot also but I'm too lazy to dismount my webcam to take the picture.
As you can see, there is two calluses distinct, under my ring and pinky fingers. If you don't have them, either you will soon, or you're holding the shinai differently...
